People of all ages would stand staring wide eyed at the "Midway Barker" trying to figure out his secret. They would even walk right up to his stage and stare at him during the his performance and every time he would immediately draw them into the act. On several occasions, I had the opportunity to speak with the "Midway Barker" after his show. He is about my height -- 6 feet 1 inches. Now, I learned his secret, not because he told me, let just say I conducted some after hour investigation.
Sometimes in life we experience those things that catch us totally off guard. When they occur it initially seems like the rug has been pulled out from under us. The more we stare at the situation trying to figure it out and reach some understanding of what and why the more confused and frustrated we become. Maybe you've encountered one of those situations. Before it happened everything in life was going great, but suddenly without warning you found yourself facing the greatest challenge in your life. Being a Christian does not exempt us from any of life's challenging circumstances. We've been called to live our daily lives by faith, but many of us struggle with doing just that. For us, living by sight, that is trusting in our own understanding is our first and most trusted choice. Isn't it odd that we hold dearly to the belief that salvation is by grace through faith but when it comes to living our daily lives we rather switch to living by sight. The same Bible that tells us about the wonderful truth of salvation by grace through faith also calls us to walk by faith, not by sight.
